We had a nice little impromtu flyin this morning. Bill, Tony and I all got some nice airtime at McCartney.
The air was strange today. No clouds, but winds from nothing to 5 mph at ground. Then maybe 50' up, it seemed to pick up. The air was fairly smooth with soft swirling puffs from ground all the way up to about 400'. Nothing hard, but my wing was sure moving around a lot. Past 400' it was smooth sailing, but fast (maybe 20 mph). At one point I looked down as I was heading into the wind and I was moving backwards ever so slightly! Not a good day for XC.
I had two nice flights, one with a nice touch and go. I tried some low level flying with full throttle and half brakes. Boy the wing can really fly slow. Perhaps next time I'll try to go deeper on the brakes and find the spot where the wing stalls or goes parachutal. I'll do this at less than 4' agl to stay within a saftey margin.
Bill Wright responds...
Indeed it was fun today. I was a little fearful of the big sweeping rises, but managed to enjoy pretty much every minute of the time I was airborne.
Tony Fasset responds...
It was good flying today. I enjoyed getting up there. Got the blood flowing again.

I didn't get too many pictures today.

An attempt at a self-portrait from 500' agl.
